Listen Now: Northwood Professor Discusses Strength of U.S. Economy on WJR

Northwood University Associate Professor of Economics and Philosophy Dr. Alex Tokarev joined ‘JR Morning on 760 WJR Friday, Sept. 18, to discuss the strength of the U.S. economy.

Drawing on recent labor-market and productivity data, Tokarev pointed to job creation, steady unemployment, rising household incomes and productivity as signs of economic resilience. He also discussed how demographic shifts and evolving consumer priorities are reshaping where Americans spend — and where businesses and workers may find opportunity.

“We need to realize that as people’s needs change, we are going to see a change in the labor market,” Tokarev said. “Things are really rapidly changing. We need to adapt.”

Tokarev also addressed persistent inflation and the Federal Reserve’s role in monetary policy. He argued that entrepreneurship, innovation and policies that support enterprise remain central to America’s long-term prosperity.

The conversation followed a recent Detroit News opinion piece by Tokarev challenging common narratives about the economy.
